Details
This is a rare sought after collectors item. It is an old bottling "hip flask" shaped bottle of VAT 69 blended whisky. It has a good filling neck/shoulder . Label and seal although very slightly worn as you would expect, are in good condition. There is no proof or capacity but bottles appear to be 70cl. The rear of the bottle has a label stating "Distilled and Bottled in SCOTLAND" UNDER BRITISH GOVERNMENT SUPERVISION"
This is not a ‘vatted’ malt as the name suggests but is a blend of about 40 malt and grain whiskies that are blended with each other at the optimal ripening stage to ensure the best result.
The typical VAT 69 bottle was introduced to the market in 1882 and hardly changed for 100 years.
In 1882 William Sanderson prepared 100 casks of blended whisky and hired a panel of experts to taste them. The cask or vat number 69 was judged to be the best and hence the name.
Whoever buys this buys a real part of Scotch whisky heritage. These old bottles are for the discerning and genuine collector only who wants not only an appreciating asset but a piece of Scottish History
